Your Session

Your newborn session — what to expect

01

When to book

I recommend booking your newborn session during your second or third trimester. This ensures your preferred date is secured, and gives us time to plan. Sessions are ideally scheduled within the first 2-3 weeks after baby arrives, when they are at their sleepiest and most settled. Once baby is here, simply let me know and we will confirm a date based on how you are both feeling.

02

Before the session

We will have a relaxed chat beforehand to discuss what matters most to you. I will share tips on preparing: a warm room (babies love warmth!), a recently fed baby, and soft natural light. There is no special preparation needed from you — just be yourselves. The beauty of lifestyle photography is capturing your real life, not a staged version of it.

03

During the session

Sessions last around 2 hours and follow baby's pace entirely. If baby needs feeding, changing or comforting, we pause — there is never any rushing. I capture the tiny details you will want to remember (those perfect fingers and toes, the delicate eyelashes, the soft wrinkled skin), along with tender moments between you and your newborn, siblings meeting baby, and the nursery you have lovingly prepared.

04

The lifestyle approach

Lifestyle newborn photography is different from traditional studio sessions. There are no props, baskets or elaborate setups. Instead, we document real life in your own home, with your own things. The focus is on connection — the way you hold your baby, the quiet moments of feeding, the exhausted but blissful expressions of new parenthood. These authentic images become more precious with every passing year.

05

After the session

Your gallery of 40+ fully edited images will be delivered within 2 weeks. You will receive a beautiful private online gallery where you can view, download and share your photos. Full print release is included, along with guidance on printing and display options so these precious memories can be enjoyed every day.

Why choose a lifestyle newborn photographer

Traditional studio newborn photography often involves elaborate props, forced poses, and babies placed in uncomfortable positions. While these images can be beautiful, they do not capture the reality of those precious first days. Lifestyle newborn photography is different. I come to your home, document your real life, and create images that are authentic, personal and deeply meaningful. There is no pressure to have a perfect house or to look a certain way — I capture the beautiful chaos and tender moments of new parenthood exactly as they are. Parents who choose lifestyle photography value authenticity over perfection, and want images that truly reflect the emotion and intimacy of welcoming a new life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Newborn photography questions

Book during your second or third trimester to secure your preferred timing. I keep my newborn calendar flexible to accommodate due dates, and we will confirm the exact session date once baby arrives. This ensures you are not locked into a specific day and can schedule when you feel ready.

The ideal time is within the first 2-3 weeks after birth. During this window, babies sleep more deeply, curl naturally into those beautiful newborn poses, and have not yet developed baby acne or colic. However, I have photographed babies up to 8 weeks old — the images are different but equally beautiful.

Lifestyle newborn photography captures your new family in your own home, doing real things — feeding, cuddling, resting together. There are no props or forced poses. The focus is on connection, emotion and the authentic details of early parenthood. The result is images that feel genuine and personal, rather than staged.

No, I do not use props, baskets, or elaborate setups. My approach is purely documentary — I capture your baby in your arms, in the nursery you have prepared, with the blankets and toys that are meaningful to you. The focus is always on your baby and your connection with them.

Babies are unpredictable, and that is completely fine! I allow plenty of time for feeds, nappy changes, and cuddles. If baby is unsettled, we pause. There is no rush. Some of the most beautiful images come from these real moments — a parent soothing their crying baby, or the relief when they finally fall asleep in your arms.

Absolutely! Capturing the moment a toddler meets their new sibling, or the family dog curiously sniffing the baby, creates wonderful memories. I recommend having a helper available to entertain older children between their moments in front of the camera.

Sessions typically last around 2 hours, but I never rush. This allows plenty of time for feeds, settling, and capturing a variety of images. The relaxed pace ensures everyone stays calm, and baby (and parents!) can take breaks as needed.

Simple, neutral clothing works best — soft whites, creams, greys, or muted tones that will not date. Avoid bold patterns or logos. Most importantly, wear something comfortable that you feel good in. Many parents choose to be photographed in comfortable loungewear, which suits the intimate, relaxed nature of the session.
